The 48th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 was played between the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, May 5. The Hardik Pandya-led team avenged their previous loss against RR and handed them an embarrassing 9-wicket loss on their home ground.

Talking about the match, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first but the decision proved wrong as they were bundled out for just 118 runs in 20 overs. RR’s destructive opener Jos Buttler continued his poor form and departed after scoring just 8 runs. However, RR suffered a massive blow when they lost the highest run-scorer of the season Yashasvi Jaiswal in an unfortunate way.

Jaiswal had a little misunderstanding with Samson while running between the wickets which made him run out in the 5th over of the first innings. The trouble didn’t reduce for RR as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals of time. Samson was looking in great touch, but the over-aggression led him to end up throwing his wicket. GT spinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmed broke RR’s back and restricted them to an embarrassing total.

A brilliant all-round performance by GT

Chasing the target, GT didn't waste too much time and chased the target with 6.1 overs to spare. At one stage, it looked like they will win the match by 10 wickets as openers Shubman Gill and Saha stitched a wonderful 71-run partnership for the first wicket. However, Yuzvendra Chahal provided the first and only breakthrough of the match by dismissing Gill, but Hardik and Saha took no time for their team to the 7th victory of the season.

Meanwhile, fans will witness 'El Classico 2.0' between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday, May 6 at Chepauk. Since returning in 2018, CSK hasn't beaten MI at home. They certainly have an opportunity now on Saturday to correct that record, but they would love a bit of home advantage in terms of the pitch to aid them in their bid.
