The Asia Cup 2023 is all set to begin on 30 August. However, the squad of Team India is yet to get announced as the team will play a three-match T20I series in Ireland, from 18 to 23 August. But, now many reports have come out that Sanju Samson might not get a place in the Asia Cup squad.

Recently, he was a part of the squad that played a thrthee-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series in the West Indies. But, it was a disappointing tour for the wicketkeeper batter as he scored just 60 runs in two ODIs. Samson scored 32 runs in three innings in the T20I series. So, fans were not happy with such a performance from him despite getting chances.   

Sanju Samson has played 13 ODIs so far

Currently, he is in the squad for the Ireland series. So, it will be interesting if he manages to perform well in these upcoming three fixtures. Recent reports also suggested that the squad is most likely to get announced on 20 August. Meanwhile, KL Rahul might make a comeback as he has started batting and keeping wickets. Iyer’s participation is still in doubt as he is yet to regain his full fitness. Speaking of Sanju Samson, he had a disappointing IPL 2023 for Rajasthan Royals (RR) both as a player and skipper.

He failed to guide the side to the playoffs while with the bat, Samson scored only 362 runs in 14 games, at an average of 30.17 and a strike rate of 153.39. He smashed three fifties in the tournament. Meanwhile, if he misses a place in the Asia Cup squad, then, he might get it tough to get a place for the upcoming ODI World Cup. Speaking of his career, he has played 13 ODIs so far and in 12 innings, he has scored 390 runs, including three fifties only. India will begin their Asia Cup campaign on 2 September against their arch-rivals Pakistan in Sri Lanka.
