The business end of the Indian T20 League 2022 started with Qualifier 1 between Gujarat and Rajasthan at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium in Kolkata. The match was a battle for a place in the Grand Finale of the tournament and hence the team battled it out to the end gifting a thriller to the fans.
Gujarat won the toss in the all-important clash and decided to field first. Rajasthan's start was weakened by the loss of in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal (3 of 8) in the second over of the innings. Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson came together and stitched a steady and dynamic partnership of 68 runs. The partnership was broken by the dismissal of Samson (47 of 26) in the 10th over of the innings. Rajasthan's score at this stage was 79 for 2. Jos Buttler kept going at the other end and started increasing the scoring rate. Towards the end of his innings, he was throwing his bat at everything in an attempt to increase the scoring rate and it was paying off. Buttler batted till the last over of the innings and played an important knock of 89 runs from 56 balls. Rajasthan on the back of Buttler's late flourish reached a formidable total of 188 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. Mohammed Shami, Yash Dayal, Sai Kishore, and Hardik Pandya picked up one wicket each.
Gujarat was shocked early in their chase by the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha in the very first over. Shubman Gill and Matthew Wade took up the onus of bringing the chase back on track. Gill was in sublime touch in a 72 runs partnership. But he was run out in the 8th over of the innings falling prey to an unfortunate run out. Before his departure, he scored 35 runs off 21 deliveries hitting 5 fours and 1 six. Gill's wicket was soon followed by Wade's (35 of 30) dismissal in the 10th over of the innings. the score of the team at this stage was 85 for 3 in 9.3 overs. The Rajasthan bowler was stringing a few good overs and putting pressure on the Gujarat batters. Bu Hardik Pandya decided to step up for his team. He played a dynamic knock and never allowed the required run rate to get out of the hand. David Miller played a great supporting role to his captain and Gujarat was marching towards their spot in the finals of their debut Indian T20 League season.
The duo stayed there till the end and took Gujarat across the line. Hardik Played a captain's knock scoring 40 off 27 balls. while Miller remained unbeaten on 68 off 38 balls. Gujarat won the match by 7 wickets with 3 balls remaining in the match. Gujarat become the first finalists of the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League 2022 and will now be waiting to see who turns out to be their opponent for the Big clash on the 29th of May at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

If Rajasthan Royals win the game, Jos Buttler will probably be the Player of the Match. But Sanju Samson's attacking 47 (26) was more impactful. He kept scoring runs at a brisk rate even after an early wicket, that too with Buttler struggling to score at the other end.#GTvRR

Tremendous start by @gujarat_titans after that early wicket. This game is alive. What a game we have!

Coming in at 11/1 with conditions aiding swing bowling, still backing your agressive game and striking at 180+. This is a superb knock from @IamSanjuSamson made things easier for the rest ๐๐ฝ #GTvRR #IPL2022 pic.twitter.com/ygoer4gQUu
