Indian left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has signed with Essex for the remainder of the County Championship season and the One Day Cup, providing a significant boost to their bowling attack for both red-ball and white-ball competitions.

Indian left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed has been roped in by the English County team Essex for the County Championship and One Day Cup, which includes six first-class games and eight List A games, as his stint will conclude in September 2025.

Notably, Khaleel, who was born in Tonk, Rajasthan, is set to play against Yorkshire at the York Cricket Club, York, starting on Sunday, June 29. His first home game will be against Warwickshire at County Ground, Chelmsford, starting on Tuesday, July 29.

"I have heard a lot about the rich history of the Club, and I'm excited to be part of it and will look to make an immediate impact. I'm looking forward to playing at Chelmsford, meeting the loyal Essex Members and fans, and delivering performances they can be proud of,” Khaleel Ahmed said.

“Essex Cricket are thrilled to announce the signing of Indian seamer Khaleel Ahmed until the end of the season. Born in Tonk, Rajasthan, Ahmed is a left-arm fast-medium bowler and right-handed batter and will be available to play for the Club until the conclusion of the 2025 season – available for both the Rothesay County Championship and the Metro Bank One Day Cup,” read the press release by Essex.

It’s important to note that Khaleel was last seen playing for the Chennai Super Kings franchise, led by MS Dhoni, in the Indian Premier League 2025 season. He scalped 15 wickets in the season, ending as the leading wicket-taker for the franchise among pacers.

After the IPL 2025 season, the left-arm pacer was also part of the India A squad in June 2025 that faced the England Lions in a first-class game in Northampton. He went on to scalp four wickets from 19 overs.

Interestingly, Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Yuzvendra Chahal are other Indians who are also part of their respective County teams this season.
