Even though England were coming back from some commendable performances, cricket fanatics and enthusiast predicted India’s win in the 1st Test. However, that was not the case as the visitors bossed the game from Day 1 and thrashed the Virat Kohli led team India by 227 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.

Taking a cheeky dig, former England batsmen Kevin Pietersen mocked the Indian fans by sending a tweet in Hindi that read “ India , yaad hai maine pehele hi chetawani di thi ke itna jasn na manaye jab aapne Australia ko unke ghar pe haraya tha” The tweet meant “India, I had warned you to not celebrate too much after defeating Australia at their home”.

Chasing 420, the host were bowled out for 192 in 58.1 overs to hand England an impressive victory. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were the only players that resisted the England bowling to some extent. However, an on song James Anderson(3/17) rattled the Indian top order while Jack Leach ran through the lower order as India stumbled to a humiliating loss.

Earlier, England posted a monumental 578 on back of a magnificent double hundred from Joe Root in the first inning before restricting India to 337, taking a massive 241 run lead.  England's win has put India into a tricky situation as the host can’t afford a loss if they’re to meet New Zealand in the summit clash of the World Test Championship. India need atleast a 2-1 win to qualify for the WTC final but the way England played in the first Test must have set the alarm bells ringing in the Indian camp.
