On 9 April 2023, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locked horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing IPL. It was the 14th match of the tournament that took place at the Rajiv Gandhi Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. SRH lost their first two games while PBKS won both of their games. So, Hyderabad were looking for their first win in the tournament in front of the home crowd.

On the other hand, Punjab were looking to continue their winning momentum under the captaincy of Shikhar Dhawan. Speaking of the match, Aiden Markram won the toss and asked Punjab to bat first. For PBKS, the skipper Shikhar Dhawan and Prabhsimran Singh came out to open the innings.

But, SRH bowlers were on fire since the start of the match. They took nine wickets of PBKS for just 88 runs in 15 overs. But, Shikhar Dhawan was the lone warrior as he put up a solid 55*-run partnership with Mohit Rathee for the last wicket. Dhawan scored 99* runs off 66 balls, including 12 fours and five sixes. Apart from him, only Sam Curran scored 22 runs off 15 balls, including three fours and one six. For SRH, Mayank Markande took four wickets for 15 runs in four overs. Along with him, Umran Malik and Marco Jansen grabbed two wickets each while Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up one wicket.

For the chase, Harry Brook and Mayank Agarwal came out as openers. But, Brook failed cheaply once again as he scored 13 runs off 14 balls. Then, Agarwal also got out on 21 runs off 20 balls, including three fours. But, Rahul Tripathi played a solid knock as he scored a fifty. Finally, Tripathi scored 74* runs off 48 balls while the skipper Markram scored 37* runs off 21 balls. Their 100*-run partnership helped SRH to win the game by eight wickets. Thus, it was Hyderabad’s first win of this ongoing season.
