The Indian Premier League (IPL)'s sixteenth season resumed on April 29 with a doubleheader. The day's opening match paired the Kolkata Knight Riders against the reigning champion Gujarat Titans at Kolkata's iconic Eden Gardens, a game GT won dominantly by 7 wickets. At the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the day's second game featured the Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The visiting team won the toss and elected to bat first. Sunrisers missed out on a 200+ score as they could manage a good total of 197/6 in their 20 overs. Opener Abhishek Sharma scored 67 off 36, while the wicketkeeper batter Heinrich Klaasen added a handy 53 off 27. Final flourishes by Abdul Samad (28 off 21) and Akeal Hosein (16 off 10) took the total near the 200-run mark. Mitchell Marsh completed a four-wicket haul with figures of 4/27 inside four overs, while Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma returned with one wicket apiece.

In reply, Delhi Capitals started horribly, losing their skipper David Warner for a two-ball duck. However, Mitchell Marsh (63 off 39) and Phil Salt (59 off 35) stitched a 112-run partnership for the second wicket making the skipper's loss short-lived. However, that was it for DC; only three batters, Priyam Garg (12 off 9), Axar Patel (29 off 14) and Ripal Patel (11 off 8), could reach double-figure scores as SRH won the game by 9 runs. For SRH, Markande remained the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/20. In contrast, four bowlers – Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akeal Hossain and Abhishek Sharma – returned with one wicket apiece.
