“India brings out their best in ICC events” - JP Duminy calls India the favourites to lift the T20 WC title

Former South African batter JP Duminy has stated that the Indian team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, elevate their performances when it comes to the ICC events, calling them “one of the favourites, if not the favourite” in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.

Speaking exclusively on the Mr Cricket UAE Podcast, Duminy revealed that the home conditions make India a strong favourite to defend the ICC T20 World Cup title. Notably, India entered the campaign as the defending champions after winning the title earlier in the 2024 edition.

"There's no doubt about it that when it comes to knockout tournaments like World Cups, Champions Trophies and the likes, you always feel that India brings out their best. India goes into World Cups, in particular this one, as one of the favourites, if not the favourite. Home conditions and playing really, really good cricket," Duminy said on Mr Cricket UAE Podcast.

Furthermore, Duminy voiced his opinion on the Super8 clash between India and South Africa, stating that it would be a bit better to chase down the target at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, considering the dew factor.

"I think chasing seems to be effective there in Ahmedabad. It also depends on timing. It's an evening game. You might have noticed in earlier games that bowlers probably have a favourable start in the first 10 overs. But because it's in the evening, I'd probably go along the lines of chasing," he added.
