Jonathan Trott slams Indian captain for last over drama on Day 3

Former England batter and analyst Jonathan Trott has slammed the newly appointed Indian Test captain Shubman Gill for his last over drama on the third day’s play at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Delving into the details, England opener Zak Crawley was seen repeatedly delaying the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah from bowling. Later, he called for a physio after he was hit on his fingers as he and his opening partner Ben Duckett had to face only one over before stumps on Day 3.

Gill, who didn’t like the time being wasted by Crawley, went on to shout a few expletives at the opening batter. However, it didn’t go down well with his partner, Duckett, who came in and intervened quickly.

Notably, India wanted to bowl two overs with six minutes left before day’s play. However, they could get only one, courtesy of Crawley’s finger injury. Speaking on JioHotstar’s ‘Match Centre Live’, Trott stated that he didn’t like Gill’s acting in the last over of the day’s play, which resembled Virat Kohli, the former Indian skipper, getting in the face of the opposition.

“We don’t know what went on when England were fielding, whether they were dishing it out. But I don’t like the acting from Shubman Gill, as a captain you set the tone. Pointing fingers and getting very confrontational, very much like a previous captain before getting in the face of the opposition. I am all for being competitive and being tough on the field, sometimes you have to rise above it. It sets up nicely for tomorrow’s play,” Trott stated.

Furthermore, the former Indian cricketer Anil Kumble also shared his views on the incident, stating that this was the first time he saw Gill so animated and going hard at the opposition.

“I haven’t seen Shubman so animated and going at the opposition. He said a few words in the first innings as well,” Kumble shared.
