In what comes as a major blow to England, Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the second Test against India in Chennai. Archer felt some discomfort in his elbow during the first Test and bowled only 9 overs in India’s second innings. The England and Wales Cricket Board had confirmed that Archer took injections in his right elbow.

“Archer will miss the second Test against India in Chennai starting on Saturday after having an injection in his right elbow,” confirmed ECB.

“The issue is not related to any previous injury and it is hoped the treatment will allow the condition to settle down quickly, allowing the player to return to action in time for the third Test in Ahmedabad.”

Stuart Broad, Chris Woakes and Olly Stone are the probable candidates to replace Archer in the next game. England will also be without the services of Jos Butter who has returned home as per the ECB’s rotation policy.

Against all odds, England thrashed India by 227 runs in the 1st Test of the 4 match series. They now can’t afford to lose another Test in the series as it’ll quash all their hopes of qualifying for the final of the World Test Championship at Lords.
