Speaking of the match, WI won the toss and opted to bat first. They got bundled out for 150 runs in their first innings as Ravichandran Ashwin picked up five wickets. In reply, the Men in Blue declared their first innings after scoring 421 runs for five wickets. Thus, they gained a lead of 271 runs. But, it was another disappointing performance from the WI batters as Ashwin rattled them with a seven-for. Thus, they got bundled out for 130 runs and India earned a 1-0 lead.

During the post-match presentation, Skipper Rohit said: “It is always nice to start well. Fresh cycle, first game of the new cycle. We wanted to come out and get a result. We don't worry about conditions or the sort of pitch we play on, mentally we have to be ready to play on any kind of pitch. That's the talk we've been having for a while. Given the conditions, I thought we played really well. Now it is just about carrying it forward and take the momentum into the second Test. We have few new guys but also some guys who haven't played a lot of cricket. So game time is needed, and keep ticking those boxes."
