Virat Kohli played his 500th international game as India took on West Indies in the second Test of the two-match Test series on their tour of the Caribbean. Kohli batted well for his 76-run knock in the first Test however, debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal stole the show with his 171 off 387 balls. Moreover, skipper Rohit Sharma scored a century while opening the innings for India.

But, the story in the second Test has been somewhat different. While both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma started off in fine form, none could complete their centuries. Jaiswal was the first one to depart shortly after completing his half-century as the opening stand yielded India 139 runs. Skipper Rohit, on the other hand, played magnificently for his 80 off 143.

Virat Kohli is batting at 87* off 161 balls at Stumps, Day 1

India lost two quick wickets in Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane. That is when Virat Kohli took matters into his own hand. He smashed eight boundaries as India closed out Day 1 at 288/4. He remained unbeaten on 87 off 161, nearing his 30th Test century. As such, while Virat Kohli was batting, the stump mic caught him saying with a smile that he has been stealing doubles since 2012. However, there was contention over the issue, some fans opined that the West Indies wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva was the one who said it to Kohli as a joke after he completed his half-century in his 500th international game.

Team India will look to add a few more runs with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja (36* off 84) still at the crease. Moreover, Ishan Kishan and Ravichandran Ashwin are yet to bat so India will look to make use of all their depth. The idea would be to post a comfortable total and put the hosts under pressure when they come out to bat. Team India are already leading the series 1-0 and have got off the mark in the standings for the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.
