West Indies have failed to qualify for the upcoming ODI World Cup which will be hosted by India. This World Cup's main round will not include the two-time champions. They have participated in every World Cup, whether it was 50 or 20 overs. However, they are now eliminated and it's a difficult pill to swallow.

West Indies had a very little mathematical chance of finishing in the top two and making it to the World Cup going into the Super Six stage of the World Cup Qualifier that is now taking place in Zimbabwe. They nevertheless had high hopes for their performance on the super six stage.

However, that couldn’t happen as in their first match of the super six stage, they suffered an embarrassing loss by 7 wickets against Scotland. Talking about the match, West Indies were asked to bat first in the do-or-die match. However, they started horribly by losing their 4 wickets on the score of just 30 runs

A brilliant all-round performance by Scotland

They never emerge from the horrible start and were restricted on the score of just 181 runs. Scotland's Brandon McMullen displayed a brilliant bowling performance as he picked up 3 wickets while conceding only 32 runs in 9 overs. Chasing the target, Scotland lost their first on the 1st ball of the second innings.

But, Matthew Cross and McMullen stitched a brilliant 125-run stand for the 2nd wicket and ensured a historic win. Cross remained unbeaten on the score of 74 runs and led his team to a 7-wicket win. Meanwhile, Windies skipper Shai Hope talked the loss in the post-match presentation and said they have let themselves down.

“To be honest, it's not one thing I can put my finger on. We certainly let ourselves down in the tournament. We need to look at how we start our innings definitely. We knew it would be challenging. The toss is always crucial but we need to find a way to counter that early movement.” Hope was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
