Australia extended their lead in the ongoing Ashes 2023 by winning the second Test by 43 runs in Lord’s. While the first Test was a hard-fought victory for Pat Cummins and his men, the second Test was rather customary. With the win, they have established a 2-0 lead in the five-Test series. While there were a few controversial moments in the second Test, Jonny Bairstow’s bizarre stumped dismissal was the one that caught the most attention. Fans even booed the Aussies while coming in and out of the dressing room at Lord's.

Following the same spirit, Australian skipper Pat Cummins had to face a series of controversial questions in the post-match press conference. One among those made headlines when an English journalist asked Cummins if they could expect underarm bowling and ‘Mankad’ dismissals from Australia later on in the series. Pat Cummins replied with a smile, ‘depends on how flat the wickets get, might be an option to turn to.’ At his wittiest best, he put the Journalist in their place following such an insulting question.

Pat Cummins thought Bairstow’s dismissal was ‘fair’

Pat Cummins dissected Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal after the game. He said, "I thought it was fair," Cummins said. "I've seen Jonny do it all the time - he did it day one to David Warner and in 2019 to Steve . It's a really common thing for 'keepers to do if they see a batter keep leaving their crease. Full credit to him, he saw the opportunity - I think Jonny did it a few balls beforehand - rolled it at the stumps, Jonny left his crease, and you leave the rest to the umpires," he added.

Cummins also recognised his counterpart, Ben Stokes’ valiant effort. In appreciation, he said, Another wonderful game, right down to the wire. “Stokesy gave us a few heart-stopping moments and the crowd seemed to enjoy it. “Of course, he played another great innings and I’m glad we got him out when we did. Having a world-class player like Ben on the top of his game, you start thinking ‘That boundary looks short’ - I was glad to have 200 on the board.”
