India have some good momentum having won the Asia Cup. The Men in Blue will now turn their attention to the Australian side who they will face for three ODIs. While India will be looking to fine-tune any chinks in their armour, Australia will have a lot of players who are coming back from injuries. This includes the likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Steve Smith.

Ahead of the series against Australia and World Cup 2023, MSK Prasad wished to see Ravichandran Ashwin play the Australia ODIs and also the World Cup. Ashwin last played for India in an ODI in 2022 against South Africa. The off-spinner was also a 2011 World Cup squad-winning member.

I have been talking to Ashwin on the phone - Rohit Sharma

“This is a very good news. I have been saying this for a while that Ashwin will be very useful for India, that too in Indian conditions. He has taken close to 500 wickets in India across formats.” MSK Prasad said on Star Sports. “Every team has 3-4 left-handers and he will prove deadly against the left-handers. I hope that he performs well against Australia and get selected in India’s World Cup squad." Prasad added.

Rohit Sharma had already talked about R Ashwin making a comeback in the ODI side in a press conference ahead of the series. Axar Patel is down with a quadriceps strain and if he does not make the cut by 28 September then either Washington Sundar or R Ashwin could replace him. Sundar played in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka but he did not get to bat or bowl in that game.

“As a spinner-all-rounder, Ashwin is in the line, I have been talking to him on the phone. The injury happened to Axar at the last minute and Washington was available, so he had to come and perform the role for us. He was cricket-fit because he was part of the Asian Games camp (in Bengaluru). I have been very clear with players about their roles. Everyone is in the loop." Rohit said.
