Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli has emphasized that he has played the most number of games over the last 15-20 years, and the recent break from international cricket was refreshing as he is feeling as fit as ever before.
Speaking to Ravi Shastri and Adam Gilchrist on Fox Cricket Australia, Kohli has asserted that it’s just the physical preparation that really needs to be taken care of, adding that his body is currently fit and his reflexes are at point.
"The amount of cricket I've played over the last 15-20 years, I've actually not rested at all, if that makes sense. I've probably played the most number of games in the last 15 years in international cricket, combining the IPL as well. So for me, it was a very refreshing time off. I'm feeling as fit, if not fitter, than I've ever been before,” Kohli told Fox Cricket Australia.
"You can just feel the freshness when you know you can play the game, and mentally you know what to do out there. It's just the physical preparation that really needs to be taken care of. At this stage, I realised that if my body is fit, if my reflexes are there, then the game awareness is already there," he added.
Unfortunately, Kohli’s comeback to international cricket ended on a disappointing note as he bagged an eight-ball duck in the first ODI in Perth. It was Mitchell Starc who took the prized wicket of Kohli.
For the unversed, Kohli has accumulated 14181 runs from 303 ODIs at an average of 57.64 with 51 centuries and 74 half-centuries, emerging as the third-leading run-scorer of all-time. He is only 54 runs away from becoming the second-leading run-scorer.
He would next be seen playing in the second ODI at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Thursday, October 23.
