Former Australia spinner Shane Warne has put his weight behind India skipper Virat Kohli to come back stronger from tough times. The last few months have been hard on Virat Kohli. He has stripped off ODI captaincy ahead of the South Africa tour. Later, he stepped down as India Test captain after India lost the Test series in South Africa.
Warner highlighted the challenges leading India and said that Virat Kohli did a tremendous job. Kohli is the most successful Test skipper and took India to wins in 40 of the 68 matches. Under his captaincy, India won twin series in Australia and also won matches in South Africa, England and West Indies. “I was a little surprised like everyone. Virat has been a wonderful captain for India but it’s also very tough with the expectations of over a billion people. It’s going to be really tough for him… I don’t think anyone could captain India for a long period of time in all forms of the game and continue to bat at a higher level,” said Warner as quoted by CricTracker.
Warner further said that Kohli will now have to prove why he is one of the best in the business. “So I think it’s a great opportunity now for Virat to go back and prove to himself and everyone why he is the best batter in the world. And hope he can concentrate on his batting and start making hundreds in all forms of the game again. I hope that’s what happens. He has inspired his teammates. India have played a fantastic brand of cricket and let’s hope that continues.”
