The action returned in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday, with the Lucknow Super Giants hosting the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Ekana Sports City Stadium in Lucknow. Sunday saw a doubleheader day with Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings ending the day victorious over Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, respectively.

Talking about Monday’s game, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) won the toss and elected to bat first on a surface that looked tricky, to say the least. However, the visitors came to regret their choice as the fans had to endure through a forgettable batting display, with the team from Southern India finishing at 126/9 in their 20 overs.

LSG were bundled out for 108 runs within 20 overs

The opening partnership between Virat Kohli, who managed 31 off 30 balls and Faf du Plessis, who finished with 44 off 40, were the only notable scorers. Dinesh Karthik added 16 off 11 and was the only other batter to get to double figures. For LSG, Naveen-ul-Haq returned with a three wicket-haul (3/30) in his four overs. At the same time, Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra bagged two each, while Krishnappa Gowtham had one scalp in the game.

In reply, LSG had an even worse batting performance, as they were bowled out for 108. Krunal Pandya (14 off 11), Marcus Stoinis (13 off 19), Krishnappa Gowtham (23 off 13), Amit Mishra (19 off 30) and Naveen-ul-Haq (13 off 13) were the only LSG batters with double-digit scores. For RCB, Josh Hazlewood and Karn Sharma returned with two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, Glenn Maxwell, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel had one scalp in the game.

Next, in the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League, the defending champions Gujarat Titans will take on the struggling Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the Titans are on a three-match winning streak, the Capitals will look to bounce back to winning ways following their loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous game.
