MS Dhoni’s contribution to Indian cricket is second to none. The cricket fans of the nation recognize his stellar career and his feats in it by cheering for him wherever he plays. He has also mostly lived up to the crowd’s expectations providing some memorable finishes for his team.
He proved that he has not yet forgotten how to finish games in the match against Mumbai, where he scored 16 runs off four balls in the last over to take Chennai home. However, in Chennai’s last match against Punjab, the task was even tougher as the men in yellow required 27 runs off the last over and MSD was on strike. He hit a six off the first delivery of the over from Rishi Dhawan but fell prey to a slower delivery of the third ball. His six was greeted with a huge roar by the crowd while his dismissal spread silence across the stadium making the craze for the man evident. After MSD’s departure, the task became impossible for Chennai as they lost the match by 11 runs.
Although MSD failed to take his team home this team around the way the crowd adores, respects and cheers the man has amazed the retired English star Kevin Pietersen. In a post-match conversation with Star Spots, Pietersen said – “It was unbelievable. It was incredible. That’s exactly why the ITL deserves to be played in the country. The energy and the excitement of that man (MS Dhoni) coming of that man coming to the wicket is none other than like anywhere else."
“It’s not a full capacity here as the bottom tier is placarded because of the restrictions. However, that did not matter at all. It was difficult calling the game, it was so noisy inside the commentary box. The support for him, the Chennai, and the ITL is incredible. It’s still noisy. The game’s finished, they lost and it’s still noisy.”- Pietersen added.
