India bagged a 44-run win over New Zealand to set their semi-final clash against Australia on Tuesday, March 4. Indian captain Rohit Sharma is now focused and confidently looking forward to facing Men In Yellow.
Notably, the last time these two sides met in an ICC, Australia came out on top to defeat India in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final. However, Australia will not be with Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood this time around.
“It will be a good game, Australia has a rich history of playing well in ICC tournaments, but it is about us and what we want to do on that particular day. It will be a great contest, looking forward to that. Hopefully we can stitch one towards us,” Rohit Sharma said after winning the final group game against New Zealand.
Moreover, India is all set to field four spinners with Varun Chakravarthy being the latest addition to the XI. On the other hand, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav are three other spinners in the XI.
“He (Varun) has got something different about him, so wanted to try and see what he had to offer. We got to think a little about what to do for the next game, it’s a good headache. If he gets it right, it’s very difficult to read him,” Rohit added.
Rohit also asserted that it is important to keep up the winning momentum before moving to the business end of the campaign. Also, he hailed the middle-order batters for putting up a good-looking total after losing three early wickets.
“Critical to possibly win every game and doing everything right in a short tournament. Important to correct mistakes quickly, and that’s where we know if your team is going up or going down. Important to finish on a high. We played a perfect game. It was important at that stage (after being 30/3) to build a partnership, and I thought we got to a good total," he concluded.
