On 16 June 2023, the Ashes finally got underway in Birmingham between England and Australia. Hence, fans were hoping to the same set of players in action in the first match.

Speaking of the match, Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. He said: “We’ll bat first. Looks a great cricket wicket. Very proud to be here with all the hype around, very special moment for me and the team. It has been tough at times with the energy, but that has been something we are good at in the past. Happy to have Mo back, unfortunate injury to Leachy. I’ve seen Mo produce some great performances in the past, we know what he can bring to the team.”

Josh Hazlewood replaced Mitchell Starc in the first Ashesh clash

While Pat Cummins said: “We’d have batted as well. One change, Mitch Starc out, Hazlewood comes in. Tough call, Starc was really good last game but good to have someone like Hazlewood come in. Tough to manage the workload, but that is a good problem to have. Good preparation to win the WTC final, we went into that fresh and we are now eager to go. England will come at us, but that’s okay.”

Hearing that, fans went crazy and shared their views on social media. Starc had a good game in the recent WTC final. The Aussi pacer took four wickets in two innings. So, fans were in shock to see him getting dropped from the playing 11. Josh Hazlewood replaced him in the team after he managed to make a comeback to his fitness. Starc has taken 310 wickets so far in 78 Tests for an economy of 3.32 and a strike rate of 24.64. So, they took a tough decision to keep him out of the playing 11 while they went for Hazlewood.
