Jay Shah confirmed on October 18, Tuesday, that the Indian team won’t be travelling to Pakistan to take part in the 2023 Asia Cup. This statement from Shah was not received by the Pakistani fans who hit back at the secretary saying that many Test playing nations come to their nation.

Ramiz Raja, who was in agony, said that he was not able to understand the timing of the statement from Shah and added that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials were surprised to hear that coming from the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

“We have nothing to say at the moment, but yes, we will look at things and take up this matter at appropriate forums like the Cricket’s governing body board meeting in Melbourne next month. The PCB officials are surprised at the timing of Jay Shah’s statement because there is still nearly a year to go before the Asia Cup is held in Pakistan in September 2023,” Raja was quoted as saying by IndiaTV.

“The PCB is wondering in what capacity has Jay Shah given the statement that the ACC will look to relocate the Asia Cup to UAE out of Pakistan because the hosting rights were awarded by the executive board of the ACC, not the president,” said the chief further.

However, reports came out claiming that PCB was planning to boycott the 2023 50-over World Cup set to take place in India. The Indian cricket fans hit back at the board saying that boycotting a World Body tournament for an ACC tournament was senseless.

‘No one cares, dear PCB’

Fans, who were anguished by the reports, started slamming the board on Twitter and added that no one would care if Pakistan players don’t make it to India next year. Pakistani fans, on the other hand, gave it back saying that the Indian cricket board and the World Body for cricket might suffer revenue losses if the team boycotts the tournament.

It remains to see if the PCB chief would come up with an official statement on boycotting the 50-over World Cup in India next year. However, if they do, it will be a major loss to the Pakistan team as it is a major tournament unlike the Asia Cup.

"The PCB is now prepared to take hard decisions and play hardball because it is also aware that the Cricket's governing body and ACC events will have to face commercial liabilities and losses if Pakistan does not play India in these multi-team events," PTI quoted a source from Pakistan board as saying.
