On 3 April 2023, Chennai took on the Lucknow franchise in the ongoing Indian T20 League. However, all eyes were on Ruturaj Gaikwad as he had a fantastic start to the tournament. In the first match against Gujarat, he smashed 92 runs off 50 balls. So, fans were in full joy to see him in such a form with the bat.

Now, in the second game against Lucknow, he came out to bat as KL Rahul won the toss and opted to bowl. But, he continued his form as Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 57 runs off 31 balls. Gaikwad smashed three fours and four sixes. Seeing that inning, fans went crazy and shared their views on the social media platform.

After the loss against the Gujarat franchise, MS Dhoni also heaped praises for Gaikwad. He said: “Ruturaj (Gaikwad) was brilliant, he times the ball well and he’s a pleasure to watch. The way he picks his options, it is pleasing to watch. I think it’s important for the youngsters to step in.” Along with him, the Gujarat skipper, Hardik Pandya also lauded Ruturaj Gaikwad during the post-match press conference.

“We all know the kind of player he is, but at one point in time, Chennai were going to score 220-230. We were finding it difficult to understand what areas we should bowl in because he is an all-round cricketer and plays genuine cricket shots. I genuinely felt we couldn’t err to him at all. Some of the shots that he played were not off bad balls, those were good balls and that made the big difference,” Pandya said.

“As a captain, that made my job more difficult, but full credit to him. If he continues the way he’s batting, he’s going to do wonders to Indian cricket. He has the game and when the time comes, I am sure the Indian cricket team will also back him enough,” Pandya concluded.
