On 16 February 2023, England took on New Zealand in the first match of the two-match Test series in Mount Maunganui. In recent times, England have shown a different attacking approach while playing the longest format of the game. Players like Harry Brook and skipper, Ben Stokes have been the major contributors.

So, fans were expecting a similar approach from the players in this series also. Speaking of the match, the Kiwis won the toss and elected to bowl first. While batting first, England declared their innings after scoring 325 runs for nine wickets in 58.2 overs. Harry  Brook was the star of the show as he scored 89 runs off 81 balls, including 15 fours and one six.

He batted at a strike rate of 109.87. Fans went crazy after seeing another devastating knock from the England batter. Speaking of his small Test career so far, he has played five matches so far. In seven innings, Harry Brook has scored 569 runs, at an average of 81.28. He has also managed three centuries and two fifties so far. Brook performed exceptionally well in the last Test series in Pakistan. In three matches, he scored 468 runs in five innings, at an average of 93.60. He scored three consecutive centuries in that series and also won the player of the series award.

So, fans were hoping for another century from the batter in this innings. But, he failed short by just 11 runs. Neil Wagner took his wicket and he finished the innings with four wickets for 82 runs in 16.2 overs. Apart from Harry Brook, Ben Duckett scored 84 runs off 68 balls while Ben Foakes scored 38 balls off 56 balls. For the Kiwis, Tim Southee and Scott Kuggeleihn took two wickets each while Blair Tickner managed one wicket apart from Wagner’s four-fer. After that innings, fans came up and acknowledged his effort.
