On Thursday, December 18, Jharkhand keeper-batter Ishan Kishan hogged the spotlight after scoring a match-winning century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025 Final against Haryana.

Interestingly, Kishan scripted history after becoming only the second batter in the tournament’s history to score a hundred in the final after Punjab batter Anmolpreet Singh’s 113-run knock against Punjab in the SMAT 2023-24 season.
Furthermore, the Jharkhand keeper-batter also emerged as the first batter from his state to score a century in an SMAT final. Interestingly, it was Kishan’s fifth century in the tournament’s history, which came in just 46 balls.
Batting first, Ishan got out for 101 in 49 balls, becoming the second-highest scorer in SMAT history. This century also propelled Ishan to equal Abhishek Sharma’s record of most hundreds in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
While Jharkhand posted 262/3 in 20 overs, Haryana, in the chase, could score only 193 runs in 18.3 overs before getting bundled out.
“Nothing, just a lot of love from all my teammates (on what he had for lunch). Looking at the tournament, we were going for the big shots even if we lose wickets, unfortunately we lost Virat Singh early, but we were looking to score runs. It is difficult to chase in a final. KK made it easier for me, he was scoring freely and confidently from the other end,” Ishan Kishan said.
“That's the plus point (about other batters performing and making it easier for him), we had a chat at the beginning, we gave the batters freedom to play their shots and bat positively. It was a very good pitch to bat on especially in the first innings and it helped us put such a big total on the board. Lot of support from the supporting staff, if any batter was not doing well then they were there cheering him on, it was a pretty good tournament for us. All of them had their nerves on the rope, Vikash getting early wickets, Anukul picking 18 wickets and Sushant being the highest wicket-taker, but most importantly they were listening to me,” he concluded.
