Team India's young wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan has been in the news for some time now for the wrong reasons. Kishan is currently out of action for a while and seems to have no plans to come back anytime soon. The southpaw was directed by the management to play in the ongoing Ranji Trophy but has been confirmed to miss the final round as well.

Kishan has not played competitive cricket since November 2023. He last played for India in the T20 series against Australia. Citing mental fatigue, he left the South Africa tour midway and went on to miss the T20I series against Afghanistan. He was also not named in the ongoing home Test series against England despite India not having a proper first-choice wicketkeeper.

Earlier this month, head coach Rahul Dravid had advised him to play domestic cricket before gaining direct entry into the senior national team. But he defied the former India cricketer, and various media reported that Kishan was seen training with his Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya in Baroda ahead of the IPL 2024.

During the unveiling of the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on Wednesday, the Indian Cricket Board secretary Jay Shah said that the board and the selectors will not tolerate 'any tantrums' from centrally-contracted players. The 25-year-old skipped the final round of the Ranji Trophy despite being given a stern warning.

His name was not included in the playing XI for Jharkhand in their Elite Group A match against Rajasthan at the Keenan Stadium. Notably, Kishan has not played a single Ranji Trophy match this season.

"They have been informed on phone already and I'm going to write letters as well that if your chairman of selectors, your coach and your captain are asking for it then you will have to play red-ball cricket," Shah had said.

"(It applies to) whoever is fit and young - we are not going to tolerate any other tantrums. This message is for all centrally contracted players. Everyone will have to play, otherwise, the chairman of the selection committee has given me his suggestions and I am going to give him a free hand to let him take his own calls freely," he added.
