At the toss, in his first game as the captain of the season, MS Dhoni revealed major updates about his future in the tournament. He retired from international cricket in 2020 and many speculated that he would not continue in the cash-rich for long.

When Danny Morrison asked if the skipper will be seen in the next season, he said that he will definitely put on the yellow jersey. However he kept the fans guessing if he will return as a player or mentor. "You’ll definitely see me in the yellow jersey, whether it is this one, or some other one, you never know," he said.

Meanwhile, Chennai is in ninth place in the points table with three wins in nine games. They are on a verge of a group stage exit from the tournament. They will have to win all of their remaining games to stand a chance to qualify for the playoffs.

Coming back to the match against Hyderabad, the men in yellow picked up  a spectacular win by 13-runs after a brilliant batting display at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Ruturaj Gaikwad (99runs in 57 balls) and Devon Conway (85 runs in 55 balls) helped Chennai set a huge total of 202 runs.

In the chase, the men in orange tried hard to get to the runs and came very close. However, a good bowling display from Chennai did not allow them to do that. Mukesh Choudhary took a four-wicket haul to help Chennai win the match by 13 runs. Chennai will play their next game against Bangalore on the 4th of May at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
