England’s tour of Ireland will begin on September 17, 2025, with a three-match T20I series. All games will be played in Dublin (Malahide). For Ireland, Paul Stirling will lead the team. Their squad also includes Ben Calitz, who has earned his first call-up.
Calitz earlier played for Canada at the U-19 level. Ireland will, however, miss the services of Mark Adair, Josh Little, and Fionn Hand, who are all out with injuries. England will have a new captain for the series, as Jacob Bethell takes charge. Their regular skipper, Harry Brook, has been given a break.
England men’s selector Luke Wright, in a statement, said: “Jacob Bethell has impressed with his leadership qualities ever since he has been with the England squads and the series against Ireland will provide him with the opportunity to further develop those skills on the international stage.”
Bethell, at 21, is set to become the youngest player to captain England. The team comes into this series after playing South Africa in a three-match T20I contest at home, which ended 1-1. England lost the first game but bounced back with a record score of 304/2 in the second to level things. The last match in Nottingham was abandoned due to rain.
England will be looking at players like Jordan Cox, who was named Player of the Tournament in the 2025 men’s Hundred, and Scott Currie, who comes in as a replacement for the injured Saqib Mahmood.
However, England are yet to register their first win in T20Is over Ireland. In two T20Is so far, Ireland have won one, while one match ended with no result. This will be the first time both teams play a T20I on Irish soil.
