A three-match T20I series between Ireland Women and Pakistan Women is all set to begin this week. The matches will be played on August 6, 8, and 10 at the Clontarf Cricket Club in Dublin.
Fatima Sana will lead Pakistan in their first international outing since winning the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier earlier this year — a triumph that secured their place in the upcoming ODI World Cup. Ireland, on the other hand, come into the series with strong recent form. They completed a 3-0 T20I sweep and a 2-0 ODI series win over Zimbabwe Women, giving the home team valuable momentum heading into the Pakistan challenge.
Interestingly, in the last T20I series between these two sides, Ireland pulled off a 2-1 win. However, Pakistan have a clear edge in head-to-head records, having won 15 of the 19 encounters so far, while Ireland have managed just four wins.
Despite recent success, Ireland know the task ahead will be much tougher. National selector Ciara O’Brien acknowledged the challenge in a pre-series statement.
“After a strong 5-0 series win against Zimbabwe Women across formats under new Head Coach Lloyd Tennant, it’s great to be able to move so quickly into what will understandably be a much tougher assignment against Pakistan Women in Clontarf for this T20I series,” she said.
O’Brien also underlined the importance of the series, especially with the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup Europe Qualifier coming up in the Netherlands.
“With the upcoming matches, our preparation continues for the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup Europe Qualifier in the Netherlands in a few weeks, so we’re looking to see this latest momentum continued by the squad at Clontarf,” she added.
