IPL: RCB vs LSG

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022, along with the Gujarat Titans (GT). In three seasons so far, they have not won a title but have shown consistency. In their first two seasons, LSG qualified for the playoffs but lost both times in the Eliminator.

In 2022, they were defeated by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and in 2023, the Mumbai Indians (MI) knocked them out. However, last season was disappointing for LSG fans, as the team finished seventh with 14 points from 14 matches (seven wins, seven losses). They will now look to bounce back and aim for their maiden title in the upcoming season.

On the other hand, RCB finished fourth in the league phase last season and qualified for the playoffs. However, they lost to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator. Looking to improve their performance, they will begin their campaign on 22 March against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata.

LSG will start their season on 24 March against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam. Speaking about the rivalry between RCB and LSG, they have faced each other five times, with RCB winning three matches and LSG winning two.

Last season, RCB hosted LSG in Bengaluru, but LSG emerged victorious. In IPL 2025, these teams will meet only once, with LSG hosting RCB in Lucknow on 9 May. Fans still remember the high-voltage clash between these sides in Lucknow in 2023, which sparked controversies involving Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir (then LSG mentor), and Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq (LSG).

In the upcoming season, the matchup will also be a battle between two new captains. RCB has named Rajat Patidar as their skipper, while LSG has appointed Rishabh Pant as their new leader. Pant has previous captaincy experience with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL.

In the recent auction, LSG made headlines by signing him for a record INR 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in the tournament’s history. With fresh leadership on both sides, this contest promises to be an exciting one.
