Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) since its inception. Despite not winning a title yet, they have consistently been an exciting, competitive, and star-studded team. In contrast, the Gujarat Titans (GT) joined the league in 2022.
Led by star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, the newly introduced franchise won the title in their debut season. They maintained their strong form the following year, reaching the final but falling short against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Before the last season, Hardik left GT to join Mumbai Indians (MI) as their new captain. In his absence, GT handed the leadership role to Shubman Gill. However, the season did not go as planned, as they finished eighth with 12 points from 14 matches (five wins, seven losses). This season will be crucial for GT as they aim to regain their momentum.
For RCB, the previous season had its positives. They finished fourth in the league stage with 14 points from 14 matches (seven wins, seven losses), securing a playoff spot. However, they were eliminated by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator.
Whenever RCB and GT have faced each other, fans have witnessed thrilling contests. In five encounters over the last three seasons, RCB has won three times, while GT has won twice. In IPL 2025, RCB will start their campaign on 22 March against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata, while GT will begin their season on 25 March against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad.
So, for RCB, it’s an away fixture to start the tournament, while for GT, it’s a home fixture in front of the home crowd. This season, the two teams will meet only once, with RCB hosting GT in Bengaluru on 2 April. In their two meetings last season, RCB won both games—one in Ahmedabad and the other in Bengaluru.
The question now is whether RCB, under their new captain Rajat Patidar, can extend that streak or if Shubman Gill can justify GT’s continued faith in him despite his captaincy struggles last season. The answer will unfold at the iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, on 2 April.
Here is the head-to-head record
