IPL: MI vs RR

Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians have always had a closer contest than it would seem otherwise. These are both champion teams of the Indian Premier League with Rajasthan having won the inaugural season of the tournament while Mumbai started late but went on to win the title five times.

Apart from winning the first edition of the tournament, Rajasthan has struggled to find their way to the top but the story completely changes when it comes to their clash with the Mumbai Indians.

Over the course of 17 years of the Indian Premier League, the two teams have locked horns with each other a total of 30 times. Mumbai Indians were victorious on 15 of these occasions and hence leading the table but Rajasthan having given an extremely close fight are right behind with 14 wins. One of their games had ended with no result.

The last five clashes between these two teams have been dominated well by the Royals. They lead the chart 3-2 in the last five matches which includes wins in both the matches played in the last season.

Mumbai was thrashed badly on both of these occasions as the Royals won by a margin of six wickets with 27 balls to spare in the first game last year while winning the second game by nine wickets chasing 180 with ease. They were in complete domination mode the previous year.

The first clash between these teams came back in the year 2008 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai which was won by the Mumbai Indians but the Rajasthan Royals did a great job in making a comeback in the return leg of the tournament as they emerged victorious by five wickets.

Sanju Samson has scored the most runs between the two teams, leading the charts with 640 runs, a lead of more than 100 runs from his own ex-teammate Jos Buttler. The leading bowling performance however has been shared by Jasprit Bumrah and Dhawal Kulkarni with 17 wickets each.
