IPL: MI vs LSG

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made their IPL debut in 2022 and have been a competitive and consistent side since then. In their first two seasons, they qualified for the playoffs but were eliminated in the Eliminator—first by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2022 and then by Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2023.

However, the last season did not go as planned, as they finished seventh with 14 points from 14 games. LSG fans can take immense pride in their dominance over one of the most successful teams in the competition—the Mumbai Indians.

In six meetings so far, LSG have won five times, losing just once. It is a remarkable record, considering MI’s strength and reputation as a formidable opponent, both home and away. In IPL 2025, LSG will look to continue their dominance when they host MI in Lucknow on 4 April.

This time, the two sides will face each other only once. Last season, they met twice, and LSG emerged victorious on both occasions. However, this season brings a new challenge for LSG as they begin their campaign under a new captain—Rishabh Pant. Their first match will be on 24 March against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam.

LSG made history by acquiring him for a record-breaking INR 27 crore in the auction, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. For MI, IPL 2025 is all about redemption after finishing rock bottom in tenth place last season.

They managed only eight points in 14 games. Despite speculation, MI has reaffirmed their faith in Hardik Pandya, confirming him as captain while retaining veteran opener Rohit Sharma purely as a batter.

Due to MI’s poor performances throughout last season, fans were vocal in their displeasure with Hardik Pandya as captain. This makes IPL 2025 a crucial season for him—not just as a leader but also as an individual— as he looks to win back the support of MI’s passionate fanbase by guiding the team to strong performances.

Can MI finally turn the tide in this rivalry, or will LSG continue their dominance? All eyes will be on Lucknow on 4 April for the answer.
