Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals have had some of the closest battles in the tournament. They have clashed 29 times with each other where in an extremely close fight, Rajasthan Royals edge over Delhi Capitals. Rajasthan has won 15 of these games while Delhi has claimed 14, not staying too behind in the competition.

Rajasthan Royals as well as Delhi Capitals, both these teams have played the tournament for a total of 17 years so far and have qualified six times each. The Capitals have played just one final, in 2020, against the Mumbai Indians where they could not clear the last hurdle while the Royals have played two finals, in 2008 and 2022 respectively. They were crowned champions in the inaugural season of the tournament while finishing runners-up in 2022, being beaten by Gujarat Titans.

The two teams faced each other for the first time way back in 2008 when Delhi Capitals bossed their way to win the game by nine wickets with the match being held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 19. As expected between these two teams, the Royals soon returned the favour as they returned home in the reverse leg of the edition winning the match by three wickets.
