IPL: CSK vs PBKS head-to-head record

Over the years, IPL fans have witnessed different teams lifting the prestigious trophy. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the joint-most successful franchise in tournament history, having won five titles alongside Mumbai Indians (MI). As IPL 2025 approaches, all eyes will once again be on CSK to see if they can add another trophy to their illustrious cabinet.

However, some teams have assembled strong squads filled with top-quality players in several seasons but are still waiting for their maiden title. Punjab Kings (PBKS) are one such team. Initially known as Kings XI Punjab, the franchise rebranded as Punjab Kings ahead of the 2021 season. 

Their best finish came in 2014 when they ended as runners-up, losing to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final. When it comes to head-to-head battles between CSK and PBKS, the rivalry has been closely contested. In 30 encounters, CSK has won 16 times, while PBKS has emerged victorious on 14 occasions. 

One match in IPL 2010 ended in a tie. PBKS posted 136/8 and then restricted CSK to 136/7, pushing the game into a Super Over, where Punjab secured a memorable win. For IPL 2025, PBKS has made a big move by signing last season’s title-winning captain, Shreyas Iyer. Under his leadership, they will aim to finally claim their maiden IPL trophy.

The team management showed immense faith as they bought him for INR 26.75 crore in the mega auction. PBKS and CSK will face each other twice in the upcoming season—first in New Chandigarh, followed by the reverse fixture at Chepauk, Chennai, on April 30. Both matches are scheduled for 7:30 PM IST.

In IPL 2024, PBKS defeated CSK in Chennai, while CSK won the return fixture in Dharamsala. Even in the previous season, PBKS successfully chased down 201 in Chennai, a feat that has been difficult for many stronger and more consistent teams over the years.

With a revamped squad, can PBKS pull off another impressive performance in Chennai? That remains to be seen.
