The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction is reportedly expected to take place on December 15, with all ten franchises' retention deadlines set for November 15.  This will be the first auction held in India since 2022, with the previous two taking place overseas: in Dubai in 2023 and in Jeddah in 2024.

According to earlier reports, the BCCI was thinking of conducting the IPL 2026 auction in the Gulf once more. Abu Dhabi was the top option, with Oman and Qatar also in the running, according to the same Cricbuzz article. These possibilities were informally communicated to franchises.

Although the BCCI has not yet formally announced the precise location, a recent Times of India article claims that the auction will return to India. It wouldn't be incorrect to argue that holding the auction in India will increase media attention and fan interaction.

Teams will need to make important choices over which players to keep and which to put up for auction as the IPL 2026 retention deadline draws near.

WPL 2026 auction schedule for November 27 in Delhi

The same report stated that the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026) auction will be held on November 27. The venue for the WPL 2026 auction is set to be held in Delhi. In the history of the WPL since its founding, this will be the first-ever mega auction. Teams are preparing their rosters after the WPL retention list was made public earlier this week.

The Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals all retained Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Jemimah Rodrigues.

But UP Warriorz shocked everyone by releasing Australia captain Alyssa Healy and Deepti Sharma, India's Women's World Cup Player of the Tournament, while retaining just one player in Shweta Sehrawat.
