Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their fourth consecutive win of the ongoing IPL 2025 as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by seven wickets in Hyderabad. After restricting the home side to 143/8 in 20 overs, MI chased the target down in just 15.4 overs. MI’s Trent Boult was named the Player of the Match for his four-wicket haul.
After winning the toss, MI skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bowl first — a decision that turned out to be a nightmare for the home side. Deepak Chahar and Boult dismantled SRH’s top order by dismissing Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Nitish Kumar Reddy within the first six overs.
At the end of the powerplay, SRH were struggling at 24/4, and things worsened when Hardik claimed the fifth wicket by removing Aniket Verma. Then, Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar played sensibly and delivered a counter-attacking punch as they added a record-breaking 99-run partnership for the sixth wicket — SRH’s highest sixth-wicket stand in IPL history.
Courtesy of Klaasen’s 71 (44) and Abhinav’s 43 (37), SRH managed to post 143/8 in their 20 overs. Boult led MI’s bowling attack with 4 wickets, while Chahar picked up two. Hardik and Jasprit Bumrah took one each. Notably, Bumrah also reached a milestone by claiming his 300th wicket in T20 cricket.
Let’s take a look at MI’s chase
In reply, MI lost Ryan Rickelton early. Will Jacks came in at number three but departed after scoring 22 (19). Rohit Sharma, however, continued his sublime form from the previous match, where he had smashed an unbeaten 76 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
After a 64-run partnership for the second wicket, Rohit stitched another 53-run stand for the third wicket with Suryakumar Yadav. Rohit registered back-to-back fifties and also crossed the 12,000-run mark in T20s, becoming only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to achieve the milestone.
He eventually fell for 70 (46), but Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 40 off just 19 balls, at a strike rate of 210.52, sealing the win for MI with 26 balls to spare. For SRH, Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga, and Zeeshan Ansari took one wicket each. Unadkat’s scalp turned out to be his 100th in the IPL.
With this win, MI moved to third place on the points table with 10 points from nine games and a net run rate of +0.673. SRH, meanwhile, remain ninth with four points from eight matches and a net run rate of -1.361.
MI will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 27 in Mumbai, while SRH are scheduled to play Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on April 25 in Chennai.
