IPL 2025: Who won yesterday's game between RR vs KKR?

The defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered their first win of the IPL 2025 with an eight-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati. Both teams had lost their season openers and were looking for a crucial win, but KKR emerged victorious with a clinical performance.

Quinton de Kock played a match-winning knock of 97* off 61 balls as KKR successfully chased down 152. His innings earned him the Player of the Match award. KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first. With Sunil Narine unwell, Moeen Ali came into the XI, while RR brought in Wanindu Hasaranga in place of Fazalhaq Farooqi.

RR’s batting lineup struggled to build significant partnerships, with no batter able to convert a start into a big score. Dhruv Jurel scored 33 off 28, Riyan Parag made 25 off 15, and Yashasvi Jaiswal managed 29 off 24. Jofra Archer added a crucial 16 off seven balls towards the end, helping RR reach 151/9 in their 20 overs.

KKR’s spinners took full advantage of the gripping surface, with Moeen Ali and Varun Chakravarthy sharing four wickets between them, conceding only 40 runs in eight overs at an economy of 5.00. The pacers – Harshit Rana, Vaibhav Arora, and Spencer Johnson – took five wickets but conceded 111 runs in 12 overs at an economy of 9.25.

Let’s take a look at KKR’s chase

KKR’s chase got off to a steady but slow start, with 40 runs coming in the powerplay without any wickets lost. However, Moeen Ali struggled before being run out for 5 off 12 balls, and soon after, Ajinkya Rahane fell for 18 off 15. But Quinton de Kock took control of the chase alongside young Angkrish Raghuvanshi, who played a composed knock of 22* off 17 balls.

The duo put on an unbeaten 83-run partnership for the third wicket, ensuring KKR reached the target with 2.3 overs to spare. Wanindu Hasaranga was the only RR bowler to take a wicket, while the rest struggled to contain KKR’s batters.

With this win, KKR have now opened their account and will face Mumbai Indians (MI) on 31 March in Mumbai. RR, on the other hand, will look to register their first win of the season when they take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 30 March in Guwahati.
