IPL 2025: Who won yesterday's game between RCB vs PBKS?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have bagged their maiden IPL title as they defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs in the final of IPL 2025 in Ahmedabad. RCB’s Krunal Pandya won the Player of the Match award for his economical two-wicket spell.

After winning the toss, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first. Phil Salt and Virat Kohli came out to open the innings. Salt provided a brisk start but was dismissed for 16 off nine balls. At number three, Mayank Agarwal contributed with a steady 24 off 18. Skipper Rajat Patidar (26 off 16) and Liam Livingstone (25 off 15) followed with significant cameos to keep the innings going.

It appeared to be a double-paced deck, which made acceleration difficult—something that affected Kohli’s rhythm. He eventually got out for 43 off 35 balls. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma played an excellent cameo of 24 off 10, and Romario Shepherd added a useful 17 off nine balls as RCB posted 190/9 in their 20 overs.

PBKS bowlers did well at the death. Kyle Jamieson and Arshdeep Singh both took three wickets each, while Azmatullah Omarzai, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up a wicket apiece.

Let’s take a look at PBKS’ Chase

In reply, PBKS got off to a solid start courtesy of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. However, both batters failed to convert their starts into big scores—Prabhsimran made 26 off 22, while Arya scored 24 off 19. At number three, Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis looked threatening but was dismissed for 39 off 23.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer was expected to make a meaningful contribution, but he fell for just one run. Nehal Wadhera (15 off 18) and Shashank Singh (an unbeaten 61 off 30) fought hard in the middle and at the death, but in the end, it proved too much to overcome as PBKS finished at 184/7 in 20 overs.
