Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered their first loss of IPL 2025 as Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated them by eight wickets in Bengaluru. Nothing went as planned for RCB, as they lost in front of their passionate home crowd. But for GT’s Mohammed Siraj, it was a happy homecoming. The former RCB pacer won the Player of the Match award for his brilliant bowling.
GT captain Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bowl first. RCB had a disastrous start. Their top batters struggled, with Phil Salt (14 off 13), Virat Kohli (7 off 6), Devdutt Padikkal (4 off 3), and captain Rajat Patidar (12 off 12) failing to make an impact. Liam Livingstone and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma then built a 52-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
Jitesh scored 33 off 21 before getting out, but Livingstone continued and smashed 54 off 40. In the end, Tim David’s quick 32 off 18 helped RCB post 169/8 in 20 overs. For GT, Siraj was the standout bowler, taking three wickets. Sai Kishore picked up two, while Arshad Khan, Prasidh Krishna, and Ishant Sharma took one each.
Let’s take a look at GT’s chase
In reply, RCB fans had some hope when Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Gill for 14 off 14 early. But Sai Sudharsan steadied the innings with a solid 49 off 36 before falling to Josh Hazlewood. The real match-winner, however, was Jos Buttler. He played a stunning knock, remaining unbeaten on 73 off 39 balls.
Sherfane Rutherford also chipped in with an important 30* off 18. GT chased down the target with eight wickets in hand and 2.1 overs to spare. With this win, GT moved to fourth place with four points from three matches and a net run rate of +0.807.
RCB are now third with four points in three games and a net run rate of +1.149. RCB’s next match is against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede on April 7, while GT will face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad on April 6.
