IPL 2025: Who won yesterday's game between RCB vs CSK?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are back at the top of the IPL 2025 table as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a thrilling game by just two runs in Bengaluru. RCB’s Romario Shepherd won the Player of the Match award for his blistering unbeaten cameo of 53 off 14 balls, at a strike rate of 378.57, including four boundaries and six sixes.

After winning the toss, CSK skipper MS Dhoni asked the home side to bat first, and they posted a competitive total of 213/5 in 20 overs. Both Jacob Bethell and Virat Kohli put up a show as the opening pair, adding 97 runs for the first wicket in 9.5 overs. Bethell got out for 55 (33), and Kohli was dismissed for 62 (33), batting at a strike rate of 187.87.

Then, things crumbled a little as skipper Rajat Patidar, Jitesh Sharma, and Devdutt Padikkal got out early. At that stage, it seemed RCB might struggle to cross the 200-run mark despite the great start.

But their West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd stepped up and smashed the second-fastest fifty in IPL history, off just 14 balls. His knock helped the team reach 213. For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana picked up three wickets, with one each from Sam Curran and Noor Ahmad.

Let’s take a look at CSK’s Chase

In reply, youngsters Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed gave CSK the start they needed, putting up a 51-run partnership for the first wicket in 4.3 overs before Rasheed got out for 14 (11). Sam Curran failed to continue his form from the last match and was dismissed for just five runs.

Then, Ravindra Jadeja came in and, along with Ayush, stitched a 114-run partnership for the third wicket. Ayush batted brilliantly, and the range of shots he played was astonishing to watch. Sadly, he missed his deserving maiden IPL century, scoring 94 off 48 balls, including nine fours and five sixes.

In the very next ball, Lungi Ngidi dismissed Dewald Brevis for a golden duck, and the momentum shifted towards RCB. MS Dhoni came in and was looking good until he got out for 12 (8). In the last three balls, CSK needed 13 runs, with Yash Dayal bowling and Shivam Dube at the crease with Jadeja.

Dayal bowled a no-ball that went for six, and suddenly, the visitors needed just six runs off three balls. But Dayal kept his nerves and bowled superbly to concede only three runs in the final three deliveries, as CSK lost the game by just two runs.

With this win, RCB now have 16 points from 11 games, with a net run rate of +0.482, while CSK remain at the bottom of the table with four points from 11 games and a net run rate of -1.117. RCB’s next clash is against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow on 9 May, while CSK will play against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata on 7 May.
