Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are back to winning ways after defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by eight wickets in Hyderabad in the ongoing IPL 2025. SRH pulled off the second-highest chase in IPL history by chasing down a massive target of 246 in just 18.3 overs. Abhishek Sharma was named Player of the Match for his stunning knock of 141 off 55 balls.
After winning the toss, PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first. The openers, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh gave PBKS a dream start, adding 66 runs in just four overs. Priyansh smashed 36 off 13 balls with a strike rate of 276.92, while Prabhsimran hit 42 off 23 at a strike rate of 182.60.
Shreyas Iyer then led from the front with a brilliant 82 off 36 balls, while Nehal Wadhera supported him with 27 from 22 deliveries. Towards the end, Marcus Stoinis added a quick unbeaten 34 off 11 balls as PBKS posted a huge total of 245/6 in 20 overs. For SRH, Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, and Eshan Malinga took two.

In reply, it looked like SRH batters might struggle under pressure. But openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma had other ideas. The duo stitched a massive 171-run partnership in just 12.2 overs. Head played his part with a fine 66 off 37 balls before getting out.
Heinrich Klaasen then came in and played a supporting role with an unbeaten 21 off 14, while Abhishek continued to dominate. He reached his maiden IPL century in style and finished with 141 off just 55 balls, including 14 fours and 10 sixes, at a breathtaking strike rate of 256.36.
Ishan Kishan came in at number four and stayed not out on nine, as SRH completed the record chase with eight wickets in hand and nine balls to spare.
With this win, SRH now have four points from six games and sit in eighth place with a net run rate of -1.245. PBKS, meanwhile, have faced their second loss in five games and are currently sixth on the table with six points and a net run rate of +0.065.
SRH’s next match is against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Mumbai on 17 April, while PBKS will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 15 April in Mullanpur.
