Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) continued their strong run in the IPL 2025 with a seven-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur. It was RCB’s fifth win of the season, and once again, it was Virat Kohli who led the charge. The veteran batter scored an unbeaten 73 off 54 balls and was named the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar won the toss and chose to bowl first. PBKS got off to a quick start, thanks to openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. Priyansh hit 22 off 15 balls, while Prabhsimran played a quickfire knock of 33 off 17 deliveries. However, once both openers were dismissed, PBKS lost their momentum.
RCB’s spin duo, Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya, took control in the middle overs. Their tight spells made it difficult for the PBKS batters to score freely. Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera struggled to find rhythm, while Josh Inglis chipped in with a useful 29 off 17.
Shashank Singh remained unbeaten on 31 off 33 balls, and Marco Jansen added an unbeaten 25 off 20 as PBKS reached 157/6 in their 20 overs. Suyash and Krunal claimed two wickets each, while Romario Shepherd also picked up one. In the death overs, Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled with great discipline to restrict PBKS.
Let’s take a look at RCB’s chase
Chasing 158, RCB lost Phil Salt early. But Devdutt Padikkal joined Kohli and the duo put together a strong 103-run stand for the second wicket. Padikkal looked in fine touch and scored 61 off just 35 balls. Patidar chipped in with 12, and Jitesh Sharma finished things off with an unbeaten 11 off eight balls.
RCB reached the target in 18.5 overs with seven wickets in hand. The win pushed them to third in the points table with 10 points from eight games and a healthy net run rate of +0.472. PBKS, despite the loss, remained in fourth place with the same number of points but a lower net run rate of +0.177.
RCB will next take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at home in Bengaluru on 24 April, while PBKS will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata on 26 April.
