Punjab Kings (PBKS) sealed their place in the final of the IPL 2025 as they defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets in Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad. The PBKS skipper, Shreyas Iyer, won the Player of the Match award for his match-winning unbeaten 87-run knock while chasing the 204-run target successfully.
After winning the toss, Iyer asked MI to bat first. Rohit Sharma failed for only eight runs, but Jonny Bairstow looked in good touch, smashing 38 off 24. Both Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav scored 44 each.
Skipper Hardik Pandya scored 15 off 13, but it was Naman Dhir who played an outstanding knock of 37 runs off 18 balls, at a strike rate of 205.55. Eventually, they ended up with 203/6 in 20 overs, while for PBKS, Azmatullah Omarzai bagged two wickets. Yuzvendra Chahal, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Marcus Stoinis, and Kyle Jamieson grabbed one each.
Let’s take a look at PBKS’ Chase
In reply, PBKS had a tough start, losing Prabhsimran Singh for just six runs. Then, Josh Inglis at number three showed his attacking intent with his powerful shots, scoring 38 off 21. Priyansh Arya had a start, scoring 20 off 10, but failed to convert.
Then came their captain, Iyer, who stitched a crucial 84-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Nehal Wadhera, who scored 48 off 29. Eventually, Iyer remained not out on 87 as he guided his team to the win.
With this result, PBKS reached the final of this competition after 11 years. In 2014, they played against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final but unfortunately lost. Now, on 3 June, in Ahmedabad, PBKS will lock horns with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final and both teams will be looking to lift their maiden IPL title in 18 years.
