Delhi Capitals (DC) wrapped up their IPL 2025 campaign with a commanding six-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Jaipur. Despite conceding 206 runs with the ball, DC chased down the target in 19.3 overs, with Sameer Rizvi starring in the victory. He smashed an unbeaten fifty and was named Player of the Match.
After winning the toss, DC skipper Faf du Plessis opted to bowl first. Once again, all eyes were on the PBKS opening duo of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. However, Mustafizur Rahman struck early, dismissing Priyansh for just six off nine balls.
Aussie wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis came in at number three and played a quick cameo, scoring 32 off 12 deliveries. Prabhsimran also played some attractive strokes before falling for 28 off 18. The top scorer for PBKS, however, was captain Shreyas Iyer, who made a composed 53 off 34 balls.
Towards the end of the innings, Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis added a late flourish with a blistering 44* off just 16 deliveries, helping PBKS post a strong total of 206/8. For DC, Mustafizur took three wickets, while spinners Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav picked up two each. Mukesh Kumar chipped in with one wicket as well.
Let’s take a look at DC’s Chase
In reply, DC got off to a flying start. KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis put together 55 runs in just 5.3 overs for the opening wicket. Rahul scored a brisk 35 off 21, while du Plessis contributed 23 off 15. Coming in at number three, Karun Nair added a crucial 44 off 27 balls, and debutant Sediqullah Atal chipped in with 22 off 16.
The chase was ultimately anchored by Sameer Rizvi, who finally delivered on the promise the DC management had shown in him all season. Despite an inconsistent campaign, Rizvi smashed an unbeaten 58 off 25 balls to steer the team home.
He was ably supported by Tristan Stubbs, who finished with an unbeaten 18 off 14 as DC chased down the target with three balls and six wickets to spare. With this win, DC finished their season in fifth place, ending with 15 points from 14 matches and a net run rate of +0.011.
Meanwhile, the loss dealt a blow to PBKS’ hopes of finishing in the top two. They remain in second place with 17 points from 13 matches and a net run rate of +0.327. Their final league game against Mumbai Indians (MI), scheduled for May 26 in Jaipur, will be crucial in determining the final standings for both already qualified playoff teams.
