Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their third win of the ongoing IPL 2025 as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Mumbai by four wickets. MI’s Will Jacks won the Player of the Match award for his all-round performance.

After winning the toss, MI skipper Hardik Pandya opted to bowl first, but the opening pair of SRH, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, gave a solid start with a 59-run partnership. Abhishek got out for 40 off 28, and it was not a successful homecoming for Ishan Kishan as he got out for just two runs. Head scored 28, but it came off 29 balls.
Even Nitish Kumar Reddy struggled to score quickly as he got out for 19 (21). Heinrich Klaasen smashed 37 off 28 balls and then came significant cameos from Aniket Verma (18* off eight balls) and Pat Cummins (eight runs off four balls) as SRH posted 162/5 in 20 overs. Jacks picked up two wickets while Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Trent Boult grabbed one each.
Let’s take a look at MI’s chase
In reply, Rohit Sharma came out for the chase along with Ryan Rickelton, and he was looking in good form. But again, after a start, he failed to convert it as Rohit got out for 26 (16). Then, Jacks played a sensible knock of 36 off 26 along with Rickelton’s 31 (23). Suryakumar Yadav (26 off 15) and Tilak Varma (21* off 17) got started but failed to finish the chase.
In the end, skipper Hardik scored 21 off just nine deliveries and sealed the victory for his team with 11 balls to spare. For SRH, Cummins picked up three wickets while Eshan Malinga took two and Harshal Patel bagged one.
With this win, MI are now in seventh position with six points in seven games at a net run rate of +0.239, while SRH are now in ninth spot with four points and a net run rate of -1.217. MI’s next game is on 20 April in Mumbai against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). For SRH, they will face MI again on 23 April in Hyderabad.
