Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) picked up their third win of the IPL 2025 season with a 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Rajat Patidar was named Player of the Match for his explosive 64 off just 32 balls. MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl first.
The hosts got off to a dream start as Trent Boult removed Phil Salt on just the second ball of the match. But RCB bounced back with a 91-run stand between Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal. Padikkal scored 37 off 22 before falling, after which Patidar walked in and smashed the MI bowlers all over the park.
His 64 came at a strike rate of 200, adding strong momentum to the innings. Kohli also played a key role, scoring 67 from 42 balls. While Liam Livingstone fell for a two-ball duck, RCB’s wicket keeper-batter Jitesh Sharma provided the perfect finish. His unbeaten 40 off 19 balls pushed RCB to a strong total of 221/5 in 20 overs.
For MI, Boult and Hardik took two wickets each, while Vignesh Puthur picked up one. Jasprit Bumrah, playing his comeback match, went wicketless but bowled a tight spell, conceding just 29 runs in four overs.
Let’s take a look at MI’s chase
With a high-scoring pitch, MI were expected to mount a strong chase. Rohit Sharma came in as an impact substitute for Puthur but could only score 19 off 7 balls, continuing his poor form. Ryan Rickelton, Suryakumar Yadav, and Will Jacks got starts but failed to convert them into big scores at the required pace.
Tilak Varma and skipper Hardik Pandya then gave MI some hope with a blistering 89-run partnership for the fifth wicket in just 5.4 overs. Tilak hit 56 off 29 balls, while Hardik smashed 42 off just 15 deliveries.
However, despite their efforts, MI finished on 209/9, falling short by 12 runs. Krunal Pandya was the star with the ball for RCB, picking up four wickets. Yash Dayal and Josh Hazlewood took two each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar got one.
This was RCB’s first win at Wankhede since 2015, marking a memorable moment in their season. With this victory, RCB moved to third place in the standings with six points from four games and a net run rate of +1.015. MI, on the other hand, slipped to eighth with just two points from five matches and a net run rate of -0.010.
RCB will next face Delhi Capitals (DC) in Bengaluru on April 10, while MI will take on DC in Delhi on April 13.
