Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) knocked Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) out of the IPL 2025 playoff race as they defeated Rishabh Pant and his side by six wickets in Lucknow. SRH’s Abhishek Sharma was adjudged the Player of the Match for his significant contribution in the successful chase of the 206-run target.
The SRH skipper, Pat Cummins, won the toss and opted to bowl first. Both the LSG openers, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, provided a fantastic start, adding 115 runs for the first wicket in 10.3 overs. Marsh scored 65 off 39 while Markram smashed 61 off 38.
Apart from them, Nicholas Pooran added 45 off 26, while batters like Rishabh Pant, Ayush Badoni, and Abdul Samad failed cheaply. For SRH, Eshan Malinga grabbed two wickets, while Harshal Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and the debutant Harsh Dubey took one wicket each.
Let’s take a look at SRH’s Chase
In reply, SRH also managed a blistering start, courtesy of Abhishek Sharma. Atharva Taide was the impact substitute for SRH, and he opened the innings with Abhishek as Travis Head was not available in the game due to being infected with COVID-19.
However, Taide scored only 13 off nine balls, but it was Abhishek and Ishan Kishan who added 82 runs for the second wicket in 5.5 overs. Abhishek ultimately got out for 59 off 20 to Digvesh Rathi, and both of them had a heated exchange also after the dismissal, which required players and umpires to get involved and separate them.
Ishan’s 35 off 28, Heinrich Klaasen’s 47 off 28, and Kamindu Mendis’ 32 off 21 were enough for the visitors to chase down the target with 10 balls remaining. Eventually, it turned out to be the first-ever successful 200-plus run chase at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. For LSG, Rathi bagged two wickets along with one each from Shardul Thakur and the debutant, Will O’Rourke.
After this result, LSG are also out of the playoff race and now sit in the seventh position with 10 points in 12 games, with a net run rate of -0.506, while SRH are in the eighth position with nine points in 12 games, with a net run rate of -1.005.
LSG’s next match is against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on 22 May in Ahmedabad, while SRH will play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Bengaluru on 23 May.
