The 44th clash of the ongoing IPL 2025, between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Punjab Kings (PBKS), ended with no result as the match was abandoned due to rain. After winning the toss, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to bat first. The decision turned out to be terrific considering the start they got, courtesy of Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh.
From the first over itself, they started to showcase their range of shots and left all KKR bowlers clueless. At the end of the power play, they were 56/0. However, after that, they continued to punish the home side and ultimately put up a 120-run partnership for the first wicket in 11.5 overs.
Andre Russell got the first breakthrough as Priyansh got out for 69 (35). Prabhsimran added more than 40 runs with Iyer, who came at number three, before Prabhsimran got out on 83 (49) to Vaibhav Arora.
However, in the last five overs, KKR bowlers did well and made an effort to pull back some momentum in their favour by taking wickets and not conceding many boundaries. They were seen using their slower deliveries, which turned out to be very effective in the latter part of the innings.
Ultimately, PBKS managed only 40 runs for two wickets with batters like Iyer (25* off 16), Glenn Maxwell (seven off eight balls), Marco Jansen (three off seven balls), and Josh Inglis (11* off six balls). For KKR, Russell and Varun Chakaravarthy picked up one wicket each, while Vaibhav bagged two.
Let’s take a look at KKR’s Chase
In reply, KKR had a decent start with seven runs scored in the first over. Both Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were the openers. But then, the rain came and a thunderstorm struck, and ultimately, the game got called off due to rain. As a result, both teams were awarded one point each.
Now, KKR stand at the seventh spot with seven points in nine games with a net run rate of +0.212, while PBKS remain at the fourth spot with 11 points in nine games with a net run rate of +0.177. KKR’s next game is against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Delhi on 29 April, while PBKS will play against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on 30 April in Chennai.
