Gujarat Titans (GT) registered their fourth win of the ongoing IPL 2025 season with a dominant 58-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Ahmedabad, much to the delight of their home crowd. With this win, GT climbed to the top of the points table, and Sai Sudharsan was named Player of the Match for his impressive knock of 82 runs.
After winning the toss, RR skipper Sanju Samson opted to bowl first. Jofra Archer gave RR a solid start with the ball, removing GT captain Shubman Gill early by castling his stumps. Despite that early blow, Sai Sudharsan anchored the innings with composure while Jos Buttler and Shahrukh Khan chipped in with 36 runs each.
Sudharsan went on to score 82 off 53 balls, marking his third fifty of the season and continuing to prove his consistency with the bat. Rahul Tewatia provided a late flourish with 24* off 12 balls, and Rashid Khan added a quick 12 off four deliveries to help GT post a formidable total of 217/6 in 20 overs.
For RR, Tushar Deshpande and Maheesh Theekshana took two wickets each, while Archer and Sandeep Sharma picked up one wicket apiece.
Let’s take a look at RR’s chase
Chasing 218, RR struggled to build partnerships and lost wickets at regular intervals. Shimron Hetmyer fought hard with a 32-ball 52, and skipper Sanju Samson scored 41 off 28, but apart from them, no other batter made a meaningful contribution. As a result, RR were bowled out for 159 in 19.2 overs.
GT’s bowling unit was clinical, with Prasidh Krishna leading the charge by taking three wickets. Sai Kishore and Rashid Khan chipped in with two wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, and Kulwant Khejroliya claimed one wicket each.
With this convincing win, Gujarat Titans sit atop the points table with eight points and a healthy net run rate of +1.413. Rajasthan Royals, meanwhile, slipped to seventh place with four points and a net run rate of -0.733.
GT will next face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow on 12 April, while RR will take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Jaipur on 13 April.
